Royal Ascot Dress Code
– the Precis Guide for Petite Racegoers
Tradition, excitement, the chance of a little flutter on the outcome of a race – no wonder Royal Ascot has become a national institution as well as a key date in the racing calendar.
Royal Ascot is the 5 day showcase event which is held every June. The third day of the race meeting sees the Ascot Gold Cup, or Ascot Ladies Day as it is better known, switch its focus from horse racing to fashion, and this is where we ladies – petite and otherwise - have our chance to shine. A fabulous frock and a show-stopping hat are essential to feel suitably dressed, and dress codes are strictly enforced - so please take a look at our guide to dressing for the Races – whatever your ticket type. We can’t promise you a winning horse, but we can promise great petite style!
Royal Enclosure Dress Code
• As gents are expected to wear morning dress and top hat, it’s no surprise that a ticket to the Royal Enclosure means dressing to impress at the highest level.
• Only formal day dress “with a hat or substantial fascinator” is acceptable wear. • Avoid off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch • Miniskirts are an absolute no-no • If you choose a trouser suit, it must be full length and of matching material and colour • Overseas visitors are welcome to wear formal national dress or Service dress • Precis says: To look the part for the Ascot Royal Enclosure, choose a pretty petite dress and matching jacket, finishing off your look with a fabulous hat or fascinator. Matching accessories are a must. Browse our Ascot collection Grandstand Admission Dress Code
• The rules are a little more flexible here – with ladies ‘required to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion’. Think more ‘wedding reception’ than ‘Buckingham Palace reception’.
• You don’t have to wear a hat, but many people do. • If you feel uncomfortable in a hat, you could try a fascinator instead. • Gents must wear a shirt and tie and a suit or jacket are strongly encouraged. • Sportswear, jeans and shorts are an absolute no-no • Precis says: Although the Ascot Grandstand rules aren’t as formal as those for the Royal Enclosure, you can’t go wrong with a pretty petite dress or maxi dress. Team this back with a matching jacket or shrug, and add a hat or fascinator if you would like to. Browse our Ascot collection Silver Ring Dress Code
• Smart clothing is encouraged but no formal dress code applies at this level of entry.
